Chicago Screw
Description
Chicago screws, also known as barrel nuts are two-part, reusable fasteners commonly used in leatherworking. These specific Chicago screws feature: Post length: 10 mm & Base diameter (head): 10 mm.
They consist of a threaded post (barrel) and a mating screw that tighten together to securely clamp layers of leather.
For a More Permanent Hold
Although Chicago screws are designed to be removable, you can make the connection more secure by applying a small drop of leather adhesive, or using a medium-strength thread locker such as Loctite. This helps prevent the screw from loosening over time due to movement or vibration.
They’re also ideal for belts, straps, holsters, bags, and other projects where adjustability or future disassembly may be needed.
